Stan Hensen belongs to a generation of artists for whom the World Fair in 1958 in Brussels was a defining moment. From 1958 onwards Hensen - as a draughtsman and sculptor - explores an organic language of abstract forms. As a professor in fine arts he opened up new perspectives for pupils such as Bob van der Auwera and Dominique Stroobant. From the late 1970s and early 1980s onwards Hensen develops his own, meticulously detailed version of op art.
