Gustaaf Sorel (1905-1981) lived and worked in Ostend, Belgium. He trained as an expressionist under Joris Minne and Frans Masereel. He was also strongly influenced by Leon Spilliaert. James Ensor once described Gustaaf Sorel as the black diamond of contemporary art.
