Excellent provenance.

According to Charles Baudelaire, the pioneer of modern French literature, his friend Constantin Guys was `The Painter of Modern Life`. And indeed, Guys took - as is clearly illustrated by this work - a lively interest in how modernity redefined public life and social interactions.
