Paul Bril - Italianate landscape

Paul Bril is a Flemish old master and pioneer of landscape painting. He traveled to Italy in the 1570s and ultimately started his own atelier in Rome, which was a real hotspot for young artists at the time. Brils perspective on landscape painting as an autonomous genre influenced amongst others Jan Bruegel the Elder and Pieter Paul Rubens.
