Jacques Gorus - New York

Etching on paper
1937
ca 55 by 30 cm

In the mid 1930s the Belgian printmaker Jacques Gorus traveled to New York and documented American life in the Big Apple under FRanklin Roosevelts New Deal. At the centre of this etching is a dollar sign amidst the skyscrapers. The crowds below carry signs and shout out, but none of them really seem where to go.
