Frank Philippi is a pioneer of Belgian fashion photography in the mid 1960s. Before he was closely involved with the Antwerp neo-avantgarde surrounding the Group 58 exhibiting at Hessenhuis. Accompanied by the Flemish Zero painter Jef Verheyen Philippi regularly traveled to Milan in the late 1950s where he got in touch with the icons of the Italian avant-garde such as Piero Manzoni and Lucio Fontana.
